*** Exciting news! I have LIMITED NUMBERS of printed Fulwood patterns back in stock. Even better, they now contain the following updates: pattern pieces and instructions for finishing the neck with a facing, how to make a gathered version of the skirt. ***
This pattern is also available as a PDF instant download pattern here and a complete making kit here.
You're going to love this dress; it's so versatile and can be made in lots of different versions and fabrics. It is basically a loose fitting pull-on shift dress with no fastenings making it a brilliant first dressmaking project.
There are 3 different finishes for the neck - a roll-over collar, simple bound boat neck, or faced neckline; optional side seam pockets and optional tie belt. You can customise it further by making it with the optional pleats or gathers or just using the bodice to make a simple boxy top. It's cool worn on its own for summer and makes a great layering piece worn with long sleeved t-shirts and leggings for winter. See more versions under the #miyfulwood and #fulwooddress hashtags on Instagram and on this Pinterest board. You can also find loads of inspiration, tips, reviews and tutorials specific to this pattern on the blog here.
The pattern is multi-sized and printed on 80gsm white paper (not flimsy tracing paper) which is packaged in a white paper bag with an A4 book of instructions (example in last photo). This is NOT a downloadable pdf pattern that you have to print and stick together yourself.
The dress is a fairly loose fitting generously sized garment so 3 sizes are included in the pattern ranging from bust size 80cm to 101cm (31.5" to 40") and hip size 88cm to 109cm (34.5" to 43"). This pattern is sized based on body measurements not dress sizes and includes full details of finished garment measurements for each size to make sure you get the right size first time. (If your measurements fall outside of these ranges, I've written a tutorial with my quick and easy grading method I use in classes for this pattern here.)
This pattern is suitable for almost any fabric, woven or knitted. It makes a more structured dress with a heavier fabric such as denim, or a summery more drapey version in single jersey or lightweight woven linen. You can even mix fabrics and make the bodice and skirt from different fabrics. Help with choosing fabrics can be found on the the blog here and here.
This design is easy and will suit beginners that have just started to sew!
The pattern comes with a thorough instruction booklet which covers:
- fabric requirements
- finished garment measurements
- cutting layouts
- an explanation of fabric layouts and cutting
- if you choose a stretch knit fabric - how to sew knit fabrics on a domestic sewing machine
instructions & diagrams for how to make all versions of the dress and top.
